The Suites Hotel At Waterfront Plaza

Question for the owner, why are you renting out a FAMILY suite where there is clearly a bar below playing LOUD music until 220 am? So much for sleeping. Not one in our family slept until the bar was closed. There was still loud music even after we complained several times. If you love to party until the bar closes, then this is the hotel for you. Otherwise families beware, little sleeping is done here. The rooms are less than desirable anyways. Wallpaper falling off, door knobs loose, fireplaces not working, putty on the walls, etc. You’re paying for the location and that is about all. My advice is to ruuuunnnnnn.

The location is the best part of this hotel. The lobby has been updated, but it is downhill from that point. Our room was very dark and needed updating. There was a strange pillar and pipes right in the middle of the room (see picture). The room was clean, but overall a disappointment. The long hallways are dark, and remind me of a some kind of institutional setting! Breakfast was terrible. Sausages undercooked, and the waffle maker was so greasy and burnt that it made the waffle taste terrible. I would not stay here again.

This place is a beautiful hotel but does need some updates. We also noted that in our Queen suite room, our bed sheets had a whole bunch of ink stains on them. I tried to speak to housekeeper but she was hard to understand. So I just pulled the flat sheet and slept on that. We were celebrating our Sibling Christmas so we had reserved 4 rooms. The location is the best, not far from many of Duluth's best restaurants and bars and entertainment. Just wanted to let someone know. Also when we checked into our room there were beads of some sort on the floor and somebody's prescription pill. Not happy with that especially the price you pay for the room. When I entered the main room the little coffee table was pushed sideways and the lamp shades were turned all around, this made me think the room wasn't cleaned at all! This is not acceptable I hope this helps you in the future. Please make sure the rooms get cleaned. It really was disappointing. Thank you

Very SWEET suite. Big enough for the five of us. The pool area has three pools hot tub, your average big pool, and a splash pad for little kids. Nice big entrance, with a piano. But that is where the positives end. There that there is a bar on the 2nd floor that cranks music until 2am. We didn't sleep in our first room. I was able to sleep but my parents and toddler were up all night long. We were upset and wanted to leave early. The hotel told my mom there would be no charge for the first night if we stayed and moved to another floor. I remember my mom coming back to the room and explaining this. Anyway, we stayed another night. The second room was nowhere near as nice as the first. But it was quiet. 😂 Sadly, when we checked out we were only given a small discount. It was not what was promised. The guy who promised to comp the first night wasn't there. The people working said they didn't know about any arrangement. We called & spoke to a lady who is one of the managers there. She claimed that "she was part of the conversation about our discount. That was blatant lie. It was only my mom and the gut. The novelty of the piano couldn't outdo the constant negatives we had from the leadership there. Avoid.

As soon as we took our shoes off, we our socks got SOAKING wet. Disturbed, we put my toddler's shoes back on and lifted all our bags off the floor. When we told the front desk, all they said 'oh yeah, there were some repairs on the dishwasher.' I'm not sure why they didn't mention anything when we checked in, other than that the staff clearly did not care. They handed me three towels, and that was the extent of their response. We laid the towels down where we thought the carpet was most damp and kept our shoes on. The next day, no maid service came to clean our (quite dirty) room or pick up the soaking towels we left on the floor. I went to get a few more towels and asked what they could do about our expense since the room was quite unpleasant. They offered me $50 off, which over two nights on MEA weekend was not much. We made the best of things. During checkout, I asked to comp the first night since the room was barely habitable. The staff person said $50 was the most he could do. When I asked for a manager, the staff person said there was no manager on site. What kind of hotel doesn't have a manager on site during checkout? (A poorly run one.) When I asked about why no maid service came to retrieve the wet towels, the guy told me that maid service is opt in, and you have to request it 24 hours in advance. (I saw no signage about this policy. Also, I can't BELIEVE they needed me to ask for cleaning support for a room that has been partially flooded.) Staff told me what time the manager would be on site, and I called during the times he told me. I spoke to a manager who told me 'the dishwasher was not broken, it was just leaking.' I don't know about you, but I would call a leaking dishwasher broken. Anyway, he said he had to talk to maintenance staff about the room before he could offer me any more money off the room. He said he would call me back. He didn't. I tried calling him once more and he wasn't at work. I just can't believe how little staff seemed to care about the facility or our experience in the room. The management response was ridiculous. Basically telling me he didn't believe me and had to check my story, then ghosted me. Beware if you stay in room 410 - the carpet is probably going to mold due to neglect after a flooding incident.

The rooms are large, have refrigerator, stove top microwaves and tvs with an extensive channel lineup. It's also dog friendly... but the walls and windows are thin, rooms are dated and sleep is challenging. I had a lake street facing room and the first night, the wind & rain were so loud, sleeping only occurred after hours of tossing and turning. Both nights I stayed there, I felt like every moron with a loud exhaust drove down lake street... in your room, you can hear your neighbors, dogs barking and kids running in the hallway. Not really a peaceful oasis.... if you are on a budget, want to be in Canal Park, and you can sleep through anything, this might be a good option.

We felt it was just OK. The cons: The rooms are dark since the living/kitchenette area are in the interior and don't have a window. The bathroom was dated and had black mold on the ceiling panels. Walls were thin and we could hear the late night music and conversation in the room next to us. Breakfast was just the basics and promptly closed at 10am on a weekend so don't be late. The pros: Good location if you want to be in Canal Park, however not on the lake. Bed and pull out couch were comfortable and linens seemed fresh and clean. Nice to have a kitchette for longer stays. We like other hotels in the area much better, so will not stay here in the future.
